A Profound Experience!
I had an amazing experience like no other. Rotating through A&E, pediatrics, and OB/GYN at the Coast Provincial General Hospital gave me hands-on experience that I don't think I would have gotten anywhere else, I met amazing people along the way and I was able to take part in various activities in the beautiful city of Mombasa such as the visit to the orphanage. This was definitely an eye-opening experience for me and I am very grateful for the opportunity.

My Experience Shadowing Surgeries!
Elective Africa completely exceeded my expectations from the moment I arrived. It was like a new family with staff, other students, and people of Mombasa. The hospital can feel like a bit of a culture shock at first but it is a great learning experience. I spent my weeks in the surgery department where I observed several operations including a heart surgery.

A Deeper Understanding To Global Healthcare.
This summer I had an incredible opportunity to travel to Mombasa, Kenya, and shadow doctors at Coast Provincial General Hospital. While there, I did rotations in Both OB/GYN and pediatrics. Consequently, my medical knowledge grew tremendously.
Above all, however, I received exposure to international healthcare and gained a deeper understanding of how this nation approaches healthcare issues. It was my strong interest in global health that initially led me to pursue a pre-medical internship abroad. Since my time in Kenya, I realized that I wanted to work in this field as a physician.
I am beyond thankful that I ...

An Experience I Wouldn't Trade for Anything Else!
I was fortunate enough to spend two weeks in Mombasa, Kenya. During my time there, I completed a Pre-Medical Internship through Elective Africa. This experience was such a blessing that I will be forever grateful for it.
I shadowed and observed doctors in several different departments such as Pediatrics, Accident and Emergency, OBGYN and Labor, Surgery, and more. We also took time to volunteer at a local orphanage with incredible children and taught young girls at a school nearby! I cannot even put in words how much this experience means to me and how eye-opening it was. Alongside learning and volunteering, ...

An experience Like No Other!
My experience in Kenya was one I will never forget with this program. I was able to see and learn about medicine in a whole new way. I am truly blessed to have been able to explore and find out how amazing Kenya is. I could not have gotten so many exciting opportunities without the program coordinator, Carol. She allowed me so many opportunities that I will be forever grateful for. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in furthering their medical knowledge. The knowledge I gained through my days at Coast and with the doctors and medical professionals ...

Why I Strongly Recommend Elective Africa!
My name is Hugh Sullivan and I am a rising junior at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. I spent a month at the Coast General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya where I had an incredible experience. I spent four weeks in the dental department where I learned an immense amount as well as assisted in surgeries and routine patients. Elective Africa provided me with a great opportunity to learn from professionals as well as gain experience. I could never have had anywhere else. I highly recommend this program to anyone who is looking for an experience like this. And can’t ...

Nothing Like I've Ever Done Before
This program is nothing like anything I have ever done before. Coming from a country and healthcare system in Australia highlights to me just how different it is around the world but also where there are similarities. Throughout these 4-weeks I have felt so safe and supported by the company and hope to come back again soon.

A Wonderful Experience in Mombasa, Kenya
I had a wonderful experience in Mombasa, I learned a lot about the Kenyan healthcare systems and how a hospital operates with limited resources, which was my goal. I also got a lot of hands on experience in OBGYN, which was fantastic.
The nurses, Clinical Officers, its interns especially were great teachers. All of our support staff at our site were fantastic. They did everything possible to make us feel comfortable and safe. They also made sure we knew what activities were available for us in the area.
I really loved the Swahili lessons and the extra curricular activities, especially our trips ...

My Time in Mombasa was Phenomenal!
My time in Mombasa has been phenomenal. I learned a lot in OB/GYN and minor theatre and had hands-on experience. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. I wanted to immerse myself in a new culture and learn as much as I could and thats exactly what I did. Kenya is incredibly beautiful and I cant wait to come back. The Elective Africa staff were fantastic and very helpful.

I Can't Wait To Come Back!
Overall my experience has bee a positive one. Mombasa as a whole is a beautiful city, with many ethnicities and cultures represented. We were close to the beach, marines and animal encounters in the city as well.
Coast Provincial General Hospital created an atmosphere unlike any hospital experience I have had this far in the United States. Coast Provincial General Hospital is definitely a teaching hospital, as students were present from both local, national and international schools. It is not a hospital for the soft spoken or faint of heart, and aggression is key if you were to be heard. Once you ...
