Migori Premedical Elective
I could not have anticipated the amount of love and acceptance we received from the hospital staff, in addition to the exceptional assistance of the EA staff. If you're like I was and you're not 100% sure about attending medical school, this experience will be great for you…This program allows you to observe things you would never see as a premed in North America. In addition to the hospital work, we had the opportunity to visit ...

I had a Good Experience in Mt. Meru Regional Hospital
The overall program has been a good experience which I am happy to have done. The program outside the hospital has been very good with Swahili lessons, Safari and experiencing the town of Arusha.
The food, accommodation and transportation have all been good. It has been an experience of a lifetime that I am happy to have had.

My Pre-Medical Reflection
As a pre-med, I was in search of an international program through which to expand my scope of the world and gain unique experiences in the field of medicine. Luckily for me, I found Elective Africa. Despite never having traveled so extensively in my life, I found Elective Africa to be a welcoming and friendly program that instantly put me at ease.
Rotations with Dr. Nikita Raval at Mbagathi District Hospital allowed me to experience the full extent of hospital life, which was truly thrilling as before now my experiences with medicine had been purely academic instead of clinical. My first ...

Mbagathi District Hospital; An Experience Like Never Before
I chose Elective Africa because it was something I had never experienced before. I was a little bit nervous because it was my first time in Africa and Kenya alone.
The program representatives were very supportive to me and assisted me no only settle down in a home away but also became part of family for me guiding me through my stay at all times.
I enjoyed my time at Mbagathi District Hospital in the dental department. It was very interesting to see a public hospital setting in a developing world for the first time. I enjoyed this experience because I was able to ...

An Invaluable Experience
My time at the Mbagathi District Hospital in Nairobi was a challenging but enriching experience. I split my time between the paediatric and newborn units and the hands-on experience I received was invaluable. The doctors were friendly and approachable and willing to explain anything you didn't understand. The program is well organised and the program coordinator in Nairobi was excellent at ensuring that everything was running smoothly. I would highly recommend this program to any senior medical student who is looking for a safe, enjoyable and highly practical elective program with the benefit of immersing yourself in a new culture!
"Once again, thanks so much for all you do. I had a wonderful, enriching experience and look forward to folding what I learned into my courses."

Our first week at the hospital is completed. It has been a week I will definently remember for the rest of my life, both in good and bad ways. Just after this first week, we ve learned so much that it feels like we ve been here much longer.
Overall the experience I've had in Mombasa and with the other students has been memorable. I have made some great new friends and will hopefully be able to visit them when we all return back to the states.
Today was surgery today and was very hectic. 4 women went into labor- 3 of which needed emergency C-sections. As Port Reitz Hospital only has one operating room, the third and fourth scheduled surgeries had to be pushed back to tomorrow so they had room to do the C-sections. Scott and I went into the second surgery- a thyroidectomy (removal of a goiter on the thyroid gland) only to be called out of it about an hour and a half in to "assist with an emergency". The one baby that was born normal was a still born and they were ...
