Migori
Migori is a vibrant lakeside county in western Kenya, sitting at the intersection of Luo, Kuria, and Maasai cultures along the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake and the world's second-largest freshwater lake by surface area. Shared by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, Lake Victoria is also the source of the Nile, and its waters support millions of people through fishing, agriculture, and trade across the region.
Migori offers one of the most immersive rural healthcare experiences in our network. The county hospital and its constellation of community health centres serve a predominantly agricultural population, presenting students with high volumes of malaria, HIV, maternal complications, and nutritional deficiencies in an environment where resourcefulness is essential.
Beyond the clinic, Migori's proximity to the Tanzanian border, the ancient Thimlich Ohinga stone ruins, and the fishing communities of Lake Victoria make it a culturally rich base.
